The Good: The Intel Core i7-3630QM clocked at 2.4 GHz is not the newest horse in the stable, but still packs a lot of performance. The same story applies to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M. Although not the newest graphics card available, it is still one to be reckoned with. 16 GB of RAM.
The Bad: Being the most popular gaming laptop under 1500 dollars of 2013 has its drawbacks: The glory days are over. In a world where technology moves fast, this laptop was yesterdays weapon.
The Verdict: The Asus G75VW-DH72 may no longer be the best performing gaming laptop, but if you can get one at a steep discount, it is still a very good choice.
The Asus is not the most powerful, the most graphically talented or the most portable laptop in this comparison. But if you can get one for a good deal, say sub-1000 dollars, it is still an amazing purchase.
The line of gaming laptops by Asus’ aren’t usually as modest and conservative as this one. In the past we have seen both naval vessels and stealth fighter themes. The G75VW takes things a bit easier though. Don’t get us wrong though, it is still not a slim unnoticeable machine. Coming in at 2.0 x 16.3 x 12.6 inches and weighing 8.7 points without the power supply, this is a big boy. Having changed up his look a bit though, meaning adding some metal accents here and there to interrupt from the all-matte-black exterior, gives the laptop almost a professional look.
Even though the look has taken a turn for the conservative, the gaming spec is there in full glory. Having large cooling fans on the back tweaked to remain quiet, a quality touchpad and a commendable technical lineup, means this gaming laptop under 1500 still means business. The 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7-3630QM processor comes with a massive 16GB of RAM and is supported by the popular Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M containing 3GB of dedicated VRAM. I think it’s safe to say that there is no shortage on RAM on this system.
The games stated below are playable on ‘ultra’ settings with a frame rate of at least 30 per second.
Dota 2, Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, Dead Space 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dishonored, Fifa 13, F1 2012, Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2, Counter-Strike: GO, Darksiders 2, Diablo 3.
A decent gaming laptop under 1500 dollars that has a somewhat older technical spec. Overall, it still offers a great deal of performance at an affordable price. But comparing it to the best in our test, and we would advice you to spend your money elsewhere.
