Travelpro Maxlite 3 Review

The Good: It's a simple, functional, and easy to use piece of luggage. Maxlite 3 also has reinforcements in all the right places which should keep it service for a longer period of time. Even though it's smaller than some other suitcases in this price range, the way its storage space is organized compensates for the compact dimensions.

The Bad: It's a soft-body design that is prone to tearing, especially if it comes in contact with sharp objects. For the price you are expected to pay for one of these, you would expect a more exciting design. The quality of the zippers is questionable.

The Verdict: It's a good suitcase that doesn't stand out, isn't cluttered with unnecessary features, and offers enough rigidity to survive long term use. If you keep in mind that it's a soft-body suitcase, and use it accordingly, it should prove to be a great companion on your travels.

Overview

Very conservative in design, Maxlite 3 by Travelpro is all about performance. It's a compact soft-body suitcase made of 100% polyester, and it sports a honeycomb frame which makes it lightweight. The dimensions of Maxlite 3 make it perfect for international travel, and won't go over luggage size limits of any international airlines. The build quality is great allowing Maxlite 3 to endure numerous years of frequent use.

Exterior Design

While Maxlite 3 is an outstanding suitcase, the exterior design is simple and conservative. It's one of those suitcases that doesn't stand out in the luggage pickup area. What it lacks in aesthetics, Maxlite 3 compensates with its functionality. It sports corner guards and skid guards in all the right places, and the wheels are additionally protected with reinforced housing. You also have handles on the top, sides, and the bottom of the suitcase for easier handling.

Maxlite 3 sports a zipper-based closing system, and it also features two exterior compartments of a fairly large size. The handle is made of aircraft-grade aluminum and is activated by pushing a button located on the grip. Maxlite 3 has four wheels of decent quality which make it easier to maneuver around no matter how much weight is packed inside.

Interior Design

Interior of Maxlite 3 offers a simple design with a large storage space and a large lid compartment. There is also a smaller webbed pocket on the side where you can store smaller accessories. The content of the suitcase is secured using hold-down straps. The lining is made of 100% polyester and is durable. Only potential problem you may run into while packing your Maxlite 3, is damaging the webbed areas of the accessory pocket and the lid compartment.

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 25" x 18" x 11"
  • Made of 100% Polyester
  • Aircraft-grade aluminum handle that locks in 2 positions
  • Honeycomb frame that reduces weight and increases durability
  • Full length interior lid pocket

Conclusion

Maxlite 3 by Travelpro is not an exciting nor overly attractive piece of luggage. It is functional, simple, and offers enough space that isn't cluttered with unnecessary compartments and membranes. Even though Travelpro offers a warranty on all their products, the quality of the zippers on Maxlite 3 has been questioned numerous times.
