Suunto Traverse Review

The Good: Durable and simple design, great battery life, great selection of features.

The Bad: While it's supposed to be a compromise between the Suunto Ambit 3 and Suunto Essential, Traverse is priced way too high at the moment.

The Verdict: Suunto Traverse is there for those who think that Ambit 3 is too bulky and packed with needless features. It's a more refined and elegant solution.

Overview

While their Ambit series of watches only increases in popularity, Suunto introduced a new collection called the Traverse. It's a line of watches that is designed for pure performance, and comes with a lighter selection of features compared to Ambit series, while retaining the core components necessary for serious outdoor use.

Design

Exterior appearance of Suunto Traverse is relatively similar to their Ambit series. It's a simplistic design that features a clean front face, a stainless steel bezel, and a high quality rubber band. Suunto Traverse is very robust and durable, just like most Suunto products, while the bezel is capable of withstanding a lot of torture without getting scratched. Rubber band that comes with watch is comfortable and durable, and you will easily find a good fit for your wrist. One of the best things about Suunto Traverse is its light weight. It weighs only 80 grams.

Features

The features you will find in a Suunto Traverse are optimized for performance, and are very light compared to Suunto Ambit 3. You get a compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and GPS tracking with navigation. The activity tracking feature is very basic, but it shows accurate data of your speed, pace, and similar. This information can be accessed through Movescount app. Once paired with a smart phone using Bluetooth, you can use Suunto Traverse to receive incoming call notifications among other things. At the same time, you can view the data from the watch on your phone.

GPS navigation is very versatile, and Traverse also comes with GLONASS support. One great thing about this watch is that it allows you to control GPS intervals. You have three different settings for this feature, which enables you to control the battery drain that is one of the main downsides of GPS navigation in sport watches. Naturally, lower GPS intervals will be less accurate, but you it will significantly prolong your battery life. When in time mode, you will get 14 days of operation from one charge. Suunto Traverse is waterproof up to 100m.

Specifications:

Conclusion

Suunto Traverse is a great choice for users who want a lightweight package that isn't cluttered with too many features, while still offering the core essentials. It's a durable watch that will be a great companion during almost any kind of outdoor activity.
