Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 Review

The Good: The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is a thin and stylish tablet. Its battery lasts very long and it has a microSD card slot that you can use to increase its storage.

The Bad: The 9.7-inch screen looks pixelated due to low resolution. Its a bit pricey for its average specs.

The Verdict: The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is a decent tablet, but it's definitely not the best buy due to its high price and lackluster display.

Overview

The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is a relatively larger tablet that's light and thin, but unfortunately its screen resolution makes us wish Samsung went with a somewhat smaller screen.

Features and Performance

Performance-wise this is a fine tablet, even if its processor is not that impressive compared to some other tablets in its price range.

Much like other mobile devices from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is running on Android with Samsung's TouchWiz skin. It comes with a few free goodies, like a trial subscription to The Economist and The New York Times, which some users will appreciate.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 also has a multiwindow function, which can run two apps at once, and for a relatively basic tablet — the Tab A 9.7 does it surprisingly smoothly.

Specifications:

  • CPU: 1.2 GHz quad-core
  • Memory: 2GB RAM
  • Internal Storage: 16GB/32GB
  • Storage Expansion Options: microSD card slot
  • Cameras: Front 2MP, Rear 5MP
  • Display: 8.9 inches, 1024 X 768 pixels
  • Battery: 6,000 mAh
  • OS: Android OS, 5.0 Lollipop

Conclusion

The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 features the second-biggest display in our comparison, but unfortunately it's not as sharp as some of the other tablets in its price range. The tablet would be a great budget option if Samsung decided to lower the price a little bit, but unfortunately it remains pretty high, making most of the other tablets priced below $400 the better choice.
