Canon PowerShot SX710 HS Review

The Good: Ease of use, 35mm equivalent lens, compact design, great build quality,

The Bad: Lack of common features, increased noise in low light conditions, lack of significant improvement over previous model.

The Verdict: Canon PowerShot SX710 HS is a great camera for users who don't want to be bothered with advanced options. It's well built and sports a great lens.

Overview

PowerShot SX710 HS is Canon's flagship model whose first version appeared in 2018 under the SX700 HS designation. It was well accepted by the public especially due to its extraordinary lens. Canon PowerShot SX710 HS is the next iteration of that successful model that brought several rather minor changes to the original design.

Features

Just like the PowerShot SX700 HS, the SX710 HS sports the same 35 mm equivalent (25–750 mm) lens capable of 30x optical zoom. One of the things that is new in this model is the different sensor that increased the megapixel count to 20.3. Unfortunately this new sensor negatively impacted the image quality of photos taken in low light condition. New improvements include a higher burst shot rate, increased AutoZoom that is now set to 60x, and 5-axis video stabilization. PowerShot SX710 HS is capable of recording 1060p60 video, which you can preview on the 3.0-inch LCD display.

The amount of features you can expect to get with this camera is low compared to the competition. While it was always considered to be an easy to use and simple digital camera, Canon fails to keep up with their competition who has been offering basic things such as a viewfinder, HDR capture, panorama mode, and similar, in most of their models.

Build Quality

PowerShot SX710 HS build quality was never questioned. It's a solid camera that is rigid enough, and doesn't give off an impression of a cheap product.

Specifications:

30x Optical Zoom (25-750mm)
20.3 Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor
DIGIC 6 Image Processor
Built-in Wi-Fi
3.0-inch LCD with good viewing angles

Conclusion

Canon PowerShot SX710 HS is a great point and shoot camera that is very well priced. It is aimed at casual users who don't want to deal with complicated features, and in that sense it performs great. The only thing we don't like is the fact that they've changed so little compared to the previous model.
