Amazon Fire HD 10 Review

The Good: The tablet features great, powerful speakers, as well as a microSD card slot for additional storage. If you're an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can easily stream or download movies and TV shows in the library.

The Bad: The 10.1-inch screen looks pixelated due to low resolution. Performance is sluggish from time to time. It features plastic construction that feels a bit cheap.

The Verdict: Thanks to its size, the Amazon Fire HD 10 is a great tablet for consuming movies, TV shows and similar content, but its performance and build quality could be better.

Overview

If you're an Amazon Prime member and love watching movies and TV shows, then this tablet definitely will make sense for you. Not only can you stream Prime content, but you can also download it for offline viewing. Of course, you don't have to be a Prime user, but it definitely unlocks extra perks.

Features and Performance

The Fire HD 10 is running on Amazon's latest operating system - Fire OS 5. It is based on Android, but its heavily modified. This means you won't be able to download and use all apps available in the Google Play store. Instead, you'll get your favorite apps from the Amazon app store.

It doesn't take long to figure out that this tablet was meant for media consumption. It features a big screen, and movies look good on its 720p screen, but games and other apps don't look very crisp. However, low-resolution screen is to be expected at this price point.

Performance-wise, the tablet is decent, but it could definitely do better when it comes to multitasking. The Fire HD 10 is somewhat limited due to its 1GB of RAM.

Specifications:

  • CPU: 1.5 GHz quad-core
  • Memory: 1GB RAM
  • Internal Storage: 16GB/32GB
  • Storage Expansion Options: microSD card slot
  • Cameras: Front HD camera, Rear 5MP
  • Display: 10.1 inches, 1280 X 720 pixels
  • Battery: Up to 8 hours
  • OS: Fire OS 5

Conclusion

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is good for watching movies and TV shows, especially if you're an Amazon Prime subscriber. Due to its low resolution, we suggest holding it at a somewhat larger distance for sharper image. The included microSD card slot is great, especially since you can store movies and TV shows for offline viewing thanks to Amazon Prime. The tablet offers decent performance in most cases, except when it comes to multitasking.
