The Verdict: The combination of a beautiful screen, a lot of storage and its compact build make this tablet an excellent choice for everyday use at home or for traveling.

Overview

The Tab S2 is one of the thinnest and lightest tablets on the market today. The design is premium and feels really nice in hands, just not as nice as the aluminum back of the iPad Mini 4, for example. Samsung really upped their game with this tablet, and they made sure to include all the stuff people really want, like a fingerprint scanner and a microSD card slot, so that you can expand the storage with ease.

Features and Performance

The Galaxy Tab S2 is running on Android 5.1 Lollipop and, of course, it features Samsung's TouchWiz overlay. If you've ever used a phone or a tablet that this South Korean company makes, you'll feel at home. Samsung includes a bunch of their own apps and free subscription to different apps like The Economist, The Guardian and Scribd as well. Some people will find it useful, while others will hate the fact that there are a lot of apps they don't need.

Thanks to its octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM, the Galaxy Tab S2, the tablet's performance feels really smooth, and benchmark-wise it's a tad slower than Apple's iPad Air 2, which comes at a much higher price point. Samsung's TouchWiz generally slows down the OS a bit, but you won't notice this while using the Galaxy Tab S2. Despite the powerful hardware, battery life is pretty decent, and will satisfy most users.

Specifications:

  • CPU: 1.9 GHz quad-core and 1.3 quad-core
  • Memory: 3GB RAM
  • Internal Storage: 32GB/64GB
  • Storage Expansion Options: microSD card slot
  • Cameras: Front 2.1MP, Rear 8MP
  • Display: 8 inches, 2048 X 1536 pixels
  • Battery: 4,000 mAh
  • OS: Android OS, 5.1 Lollipop

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 packs a lot of power in a surprisingly compact and thin design without sacrificing the battery life. The rear camera could be better, but this is not a big deal since the Galaxy Tab S2 is a tablet, after all.
